Hanging Pots

A hanging pot is a suspended container which is used for growing decorative plants. Usually, they are hung from buildings, where garden space is not available, and from the street for environmental enhancement. They also are suspended from free standing frames sometimes called hanging basket plants. One type of hanging basket is the inverted planter where plants are grown in an upside-down pot and they are watered from the top.

Hanging baskets are normally made from wire with a material usually plastic, lining to hold the contents. They are filled with peat-free compost usually with a water-retaining gel and controlled release fertiliser crystals. Typically they are planted with bedding plants.

Hanging planters can symbolise a bit of energy and life to places where traditional potted flowers may not be ideal and are usually of low maintenance. They can also be highly economical if made from cheap or recycled materials. Though safety concerns have been raised over hanging baskets where there was a risk that baskets could fall from lampposts and can injure the public.

 All you really need is a container capable of holding potting soil, some plants, and a place to hang the finished product. It’s common to hang planters by an entryway, but it can be made creative with the display location. For example, Consider putting a row of hanging planters along a fence line or adding hooks to a masonry wall or to the side of your house. One can also hang planters from freestanding hooks to add a bit of height to your garden beds or dangle flower pots from a large tree in your yard.
